Outer Planets

Jupiter

The largest planet in our Solar System.

A total of 63 moons for the planet have been discovered.

4 of its moons are the size of planets.

Has a small rocky code, but is mainly hydrogen and helium.

The pressure of the planet is so great that these are liquid rather than gas.

Jupiter

Saturn

Named after the original father of all the gods.

Has a 29-year orbit.

Composed mostly of hydrogen, its atmosphere and structure are similar to Jupiter's, but its density is much lower.

So light that the planet could float on water.

Winds in its upper atmosphere can travel at 1100 mph, but major storms are rare.

Saturn

Uranus

Named after the father of Saturn.

The first planet planet to be discovered since the use of the telescope.

Discovered by accident by William Herschet.

First thought to be a nebula, then a comet.

Considered to be "spinning on its side" when compared to how planets usually act.

Uranus

Neptune

Discovered as the result of calculations.

Has a vanishing dark spot, which is a hole in the upper atmosphere that is about the size of Earth.

It's rings weren't discovered until the planet passed in front of a star.

Astronomers has speculations of new planets, and eventually discrovered the dwarf planets thanks to the discovery of Neptune.
